[top photo: With the inbound tour industry in the dumps, some tour guides such as Mr Tee are looking to switch jobs, while others are taking upgrading courses.]
Tour guide Casimir Tee wants to explore a new world - career-wise.

I dunno David, that's a pretty high average age. I would guess it's more like 30 or younger. If only because of the 45+ year olds I know, none of them even know what a Kindle is, let alone e-ink. True, once I described it to my mom (55), she was interested, but she wouldn't have found out on her own unless it was in the paper or something. Maybe I'm hanging with the wrong crowd, but the Kindle's target demographic Read the rest of this entry »
Bright lights, fun, games, big shows. It's hard not to find something to make a vacation visit enjoyable in Las Vegas.
And with the economy cutting into attendance these days, the resorts and casinos are working a little harder to keep people coming, making it easier to find package deals and lower rates that will stretch your travel budget. Just remember, like the song says: You gotta shop around.

Mike Russell poured scorn on Glasgow, Aberdeen, Stirling, Lanarkshire and his
own constituents in Dumfries, as well as taking offence at the Union flag
hanging over Edinburgh Castle.
Rural Scotland did not escape his ire, with residents in one village compared
to the backward, unhinged characters in the 1970s cult horror movie
Deliverance.
Mr Russell was promoted to culture minister by the First Minister in a recent

1. Jailbreak and unlock your iPhone
Before you get on the plane, you need to both hack and unlock your iPhone. (Note: Jailbreaking is not illegal, although

Otherwise, you'll end up sticking in an international SIM card, only to
be greeted with the "Invalid SIM" message. (Or if you're on AT&T and you opt for an international roaming plan, you'll likely end up paying more than your plane tickets just to use your iPhone.)
To clarify, I own a Read the rest of this entry »

A USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds that 58% of people who normally take an annual vacation away from home will shrink their vacation spending this year –– or just not go.
The finding mirrors a 2009 travel forecast newly issued by consultants D.K. Shifflet & Associates and IHS Global Insight, which research travel behavior monthly.

NEW YORK — Enough already with chilly gray winter. Time to pick up a bouquet of bright pink tulips and start thinking about spring.
In many places, it will be weeks before daffodils and hyacinths start peeking through the ground, but there are plenty of flower shows to see in the meantime. Some are big annual events with themes that change every year, like the famous Philadelphia Flower Show at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, this year Read the rest of this entry »
